Gift Box Reuse
During the holidays or special occasions, beautifully wrapped gifts are pleasing to the eye. Mostly every year many people use gift-wrapping paper that ends in the landfill and hurts the environment. To avoid waste many new designs are sustainable, with reusable wrapping paper, bags, and other packaging ideas.
In collaboration with fellow graphic designer Dana Quiambao, our goal was to reduce the waste of gift-wraps, and to design a reusable package that serves as a gift box. The sketchbook was the object chosen to be a gift, and we made the packaging in a triangular box with sketch paper that is attached with concertina binding. The packaging includes foldable flats for the box that create a pencil case. The box is wrapped with in a brown paper material to look recyclable and to show that it is reusable. We also included an instruction manual with graphic models that illustrate how to transform the box. The manual is designed as a bookmark for the sketchbook.
Naming the gift packaging Artist Box, we designed the logo and pattern on the box. The pattern on the box resembles the tips of pencils to hint at what the package would be. The artist box is an environmentally friendly package that transforms from a box to its own sketchbook with a pencil case. The package was designed to draw in and create an unexpected surprise for a recipient. The artist box is a perfect gift to help people draw wherever they go, and is a complete reusable gift that eliminates any waste.
